Using the Mailbox Tab

The Mailbox tab provides information about the currently selected units and the messages sent to and from those units. It is located immediately below the ViewPoint map, along with the following tabs:

The Mailbox tab shows position, tracking, status, configuration and text messages sent to and from the selected units.

Note: You can choose whether to display the tab, the columns to include and their order using the BASEBAR tab of the User Preferences page. You can choose the number of messages to display in the Mailbox tab using the Max Loaded Messages option in the DATA tab of the User Preferences page.

Most information in the tab is self-explanatory. See "Common Report Headings" for details of columns that may not be self-explanatory.

Note: ViewPoint stores messages for 90 days. You can view all of these messages by paging through while using History View. If you are using Live View, only the first page of messages is shown.

For messages sent from the unit, there is an icon in the column to the right of the OPTIONS button, which represents the status of the unit at the time of sending the message. For example:

There is a key explaining the meaning of the icon near the top-right corner of the Mailbox tab.

When you send a message to a unit, such as a text message, it is logged in the Mailbox tab. This allows you to follow the progress of the message as it is prepared, sent and acknowledged by viewing the status in the Progress column. The stages of progression are:

Pending - Displayed if ViewPoint has to perform checks before queuing the message to be sent, such as checking that the unit is on.

Queued - Indicates that the message has been queued for transmission by ViewPoint.

Submitted - Indicates that ViewPoint has submitted the message to the communications network.

Sent - The message has been transmitted to the unit. After certain message types have been sent to the unit, ViewPoint waits for the unit to send an acknowledgement message to indicate that the unit has received the message.

Not responding - This is displayed if ViewPoint has not received an acknowledgement from the unit that the message was received. ViewPoint continues to re-send another message.

Acknowledged - ViewPoint has received the acknowledgement message, which confirms that the unit has received the message.

Expired - This is displayed if ViewPoint has not received the acknowledgement message. ViewPoint will eventually attempt to send the message again.

Tab Options and Features

By default, the Mailbox shows all types of messages, but you can use the Message Types menus near the top-left corner of the Mailbox to filter the types of messages displayed.

You can save historical information in the Mailbox tab to a CSV (Comma Separated Value) file by following these steps:

1. Select a single unit from the Unit menu in the unit selection area.

2. Display the History View with the date range of information to be saved.

3. Click the CSV button to the right of the Message Types menus in the Mailbox tab.

Note: You can choose the data columns to save to the CSV file using the BASEBAR tab of the User Preferences page.

This option is available for incoming messages only. Clicking the button focuses the ViewPoint map on the position of the unit at the time the message was sent.

To minimize the Mailbox, Summary, Details and Reports tabs, click the following icon located to the right of the tabs:

Clicking the icon again restores the tabs.

Clicking the OPTIONS button next to the name of a unit takes you to the Unit Options page.

Clicking the OPTIONS button in the column heading allows you to send a message or configuration command to one or more selected units in a single operation.
